Alec Ross is a KeyNote speaker and Guest of Honour at the Young Innovators UNconvention.
Alec will speak at the following sessions: “Plenary ” (from 5pm – 6pm) session on the 26th June and on 27 June at 14h30 The plenary session on day one of the unconvention at BoZar, the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, will be a community platform to debate and discuss the bottom-up practices, approaches and concerns vis-à-vis Innovation and Entrepreneurship, especially in contrast to the US narrative, with the more than 500 strong audience of young Innovators, entrepreneurs, technical experts and opinion makers.
The plenary on day two of the unconvention (14h30 to 15h30 at the European Parliament) will be a policy platform for 400 other young Innovators, senior policy experts, opinion leaders and decision makers to debate and discuss Innovation, Youth (un)Employment, Growth, the European policy response and its next evolution, with a specific focus on what best practices from the US can be integrated.
Alec Ross’s contribution to the cause of Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Alec has made massive contributions to the causes of innovation, tech entrepreneurship, digital public advocacy, both in terms of the philosophy of these paradigms as articulated in the ‘laptop in every backpack’ but also the concrete, high-impact projects like ‘the Beehive’ that he pioneered and successfully developed, easily making him both accomplished community digital innovator and 21st century digital diplomacy and innovative policy champion and thus a perfect role model of inspiration for the unconvention, which brings together the innovators community and the policy and decision makers within an interactive, informal, unconventional format. Alec is also the Guest of Honour at the US Mission to the EU dinner for the EYIF – US Mission to the EU and US State Department joint InnotourUSA programme participants on Monday 25th.
Alec Ross, Senior Adviser Innovation in the Office of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Alec Ross serves as Senior Advisor for Innovation in the Office of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In this role, Alec is tasked with maximizing the potential of technology in service of America’s diplomatic and development goals. Prior to his service at the State Department, Alec worked on the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team and served as Convener for Obama for America’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications Policy Committee. In 2000, Alec Ross and three colleagues co-founded One Economy, a global nonprofit that uses innovative approaches to deliver the power of technology and information about education, jobs, health care and other vital issues to low-income people. During his eight years at One Economy, it grew from a team of four people working in a basement to the world’s largest digital divide organization, with programs on four continents. Alec started his career as a sixth grade teacher in inner-city Baltimore through Teach for America. He is a graduate of Northwestern University.
