Prezi, Alumn-e, CartoDB and paij GmbH were awarded Best European Web Entrepreneurs of the Year
This evening, at the Web Summit conference in Dublin, the European Commission announced the winners of the 2014 Europioneers Awards for the four categories of best European Web Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Dublin, November 5th, 2014 – After 6 months of competition, the European Commission, with Deloitte, European Young Innovators Forum and HUB Institute, are proud to announce the winners who represent the new generation of European entrepreneurs who use the web as the core of their business strategy and development.
The award ceremony took place today at 7pm at the Web Summit conference with a large representation of the entrepreneur community. The ceremony was held during the a Gala dinner where the winners presented their startup venture in front of 150 VC, industry experts, media and public authorities.
The 2014 winners are :
Peter loves technologies that enable world-changing stories to be shared. In 2008, he joined forces with fellow Hungarians, Adam Somlai-Fischer and Péter Halácsy, an architect and an innovator, to create a more memorable and engaging way for people to share stories. Today, their creation is known as “Prezi.” Before co-founding Prezi, Peter was already active in the information-sharing realm. In Sweden, he founded omvard.se a company that aggregates data on treatment outcomes for hospital patients. Soon after, he developed the world’s first mobile newsreader so people could follow TED Talks from their mobile devices. In his spare time, Peter enjoys prodding fellow colleagues to join him at Bikram Yoga classes. Additionally, he’s the go-to translator at Prezi since he speaks Japanese, Swedish, Hungarian, and English, which also awards him the coveted title of “polyglot.”
Guillermo is the founder of Alumn-e. He has created a new technology, content and courses to make companies and people learn. Alumn-e’s target is to create the largest e-learning company in Europe. They are a group of young entrepreneur people in Spain trying to change our reality using innovation and technology. They have created different companies throughout the years. The most important one is ‘ejustic’ the most advanced company specialized in on-line dispute resolution of Europe.
Javier is CEO and Co-Founder of Vizzuality. Over the past 10 years he has been working in the field of biodiversity informatics, first on the academia side, working at different research institutions, and later on the private side.
As founder and managing director of paij Sylvia is responsible for strategic development and finance. Her career as a serial entrepreneur started with the web service agency redrauscher. Before she founded redrauscher Sylvia worked at business consultancies like McKinsey & Company among others. Sylvia and her innovative, dynamic team were able to launch a tech startup and make it ready for market in just a few months: the mobile payment app paij. The product paij stands for a mobile payment revolution! With the free paij app, available on smartphones and tablets, everyone is able to send and receive payments without using cash or credit cards. Universality and flexibility have been key in the development of paij right from the start. Winners were elected 30% from the public and 70 % from the jury
Since 2013, the Europioneers competition has rewarded European Web Entrepreneurs and put them in the spotlight. The objectives of the award are to identify and recognize successful European web initiatives, and also to promote the role web entrepreneurs play in European society and to encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs.
