Web Summit Moves to Lisbon

It’s official: Web Summit is moving from Dublin to Portugal. The 2016 edition of the biggest technology conference in Europe will be held at the MEO Arena and FIL Feira Internacional de Lisboa, where it will stay for the next three years.

In 2015, Portugal saw the creation of more than 500 startups and almost the 8.2% of Portuguese were involved in startups and new businesses. That’s why the Financial Times compared Lisbon to San Francisco and Mike Butcher of TechCrunch claims that: “Lisbon is emerging as a genuinely new tech ecosystem in Europe, with Berlin-levels of cheapness but with Southern European weather.”

EYIF, with our hub partner Beta-i has supported numerous events in Lisbon to develop the growing entrepreneurial spirit and startup ecosystem. Beta-i has been named the 4th “Most Active Accelerator in Europe” by Fundacity and the “Biggest Startup & Entrepreneurship Promoter” in Europe by the European Enterprise Promotion Awards in June 2014.

We at the EYIF are proud that Lisbon, a city with a growing startup ecosystem that we have been supporting for over 2 years now, has been chosen to host such an important event. In the height of our partnership with Beta-i – the most active startup hub in Lisbon, EYIF’s co-founder Nicholas Zylberglajt shared his enthusiasm: “Lisbon has become a vibrant city for startups to spark and grow. It’s definitely an excellent destination and we hope to continue the very good cooperation with our hub partners”

We hope that this is a new milestone for an ever growing success for Lisbon. We will be there again on 20-22 October for the ICT week. Parabens Lisboa!
