EYIF in action: #DisruptEurope Year

What a year!

It’s been a year full of challenges and opportunities for European Young Innovators Forum Team and we can’t be more grateful!

During the Disrupt Europe Year, we have participated in more than 50 events in 3 continents! Each event and each project gave us the opportunity to meet new potential partners, to enlarge our entrepreneurial ecosystem and to help young entrepreneurs build a relationship with the key players in the European and American business sector. Read the short review below and learn where you can meet the EYIF team next year!

Key events of this year:

The Disrupt Europe Year has been launched during the Innovation Roundtable, in November 2014, when the Euromentors project had been presented for the first time to the audience. Our President, Kumardev Chatterjee, has been invited to participate at the 2nd German International Forum in Berlin, where he had a dialogue with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In February, a part of the EYIF team and a few well selected young European entrepreneurs visited San Francisco and discovered Silicon Valley, as part of the InnoBridge USA Tour. The trip took place during the Global Innovation Summit, in partnership with the US Mission to the EU. In addition, we attended CeBIT Fair in Germany and organized the InnoCoffee conference with Saskia van Uffelen, CEO of Ericsson Belux as well as Digital Champion of Belgium. Since, supporting the young innovators is one of EYIF’s core activities, therefore we couldn’t miss the MIT Innovators Under 35 Italy and the MIT Innovators Under 35 Belgium Award.

We proudly organized the Youth Innovation Week, with events taking place in Warsaw, London, Cluj-Napoca, Barcelona and Nicosia, representing an opportunity to meet a part of our hubs and to establish new connections with the local ecosystems. The Youth Innovation Week culminated with Unconvention 2015, our flagship event, which hosted more than 100 participants. Anthony Gardner, US Ambassador to the EU, EU Commissioner Gunther H. Oettinger, Markku Markkula, President of Committee of the Regions, John Biggs, Editor at TechCrunch are just a few who spoke in front of the audience during the Unconvention 2015. The audience had also had the chance to get mentored by experts in growth hacking and scaling up. Furthermore, during the event, the InnoPitch participants pitched their business idea in front of the jury. Curious to find out how did the Unconvention go? Read here an overview of this edition. We have already started preparing for the the 5th edition! You can pre-register for Unconvention 2016 to receive the latest updates!

For the first time, we had the pleasure to be invited by our partners GSMA at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, where the EYIF Pavilion was the only European booth, which gave us the to expand our network with the most influential figures from across Asia.

October represented another milestone of our activity, as we launched the European Startup Act 2020, our policy recommendations and our vision on how the entrepreneurial ecosystem should look like in 2020. In this context, the EU Startup Act 2020 has been presented to several events in the presence of key policy makers and institutions, such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, the ICT Week Lisbon, the State of Europe Roundtable and the Annual Luxembourg President’ Dinner. We organized the Europioneers Award Ceremony at Slush Conference, in Helsinki, celebrating the European Web Entrepreneurs of the Year winners. Who are they? Find out here. We also launched our new initiative, the Grow Global Year, during the Innovation Roundtable, held at the European Parliament and we officially attended our last event yesterday, Transforming Europe Towards the Digital Age, for a mentoring session powered by Euromentors.

Brandwatch summed up all the contribution on social media channels: our content generated more than 33 million impression and 19 thousand mentions of EYIF run programmes. Find below a detailed infographic.
