Mobile World Congress Barcelona has just closed its doors and we are glad to have been part of this “startup” madness for the 3rd year in a row! It is time now to share our experience and memories!
For those who haven’t heard about this congress yet, Mobile World Congress Barcelona is the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry, organised by the GSMA.
Between 27 February – 2 March, together with our partners from 4 Years from Now, the European Young Innovators Forum and EU Startup Services took the pulse of the global startup scene, creating new connections in Europe, as well as in Palo Alto and Asia. Each day had a different topic: Monday was all about Disruption by Mobile, whereas Internet of Things dominated the 2nd day. The 3rd day was centered around Digital Media.
Our first encounter was at Antiga Fabrica Estrella Damn for Mobile Sunday organized by Robin Wauters from Tech.eu, where Gregory Gimmy from the BMW Startup Garage, Karoline Korth from Roche and Rune Theill from Rockstart had a fruitful debate on how and why corporations should pair up startups and entrepreneurs.
During these 4 days, the EYIF and EU Startup Services stand received more than 500 visitors interested in our activities and projects, trying to find out among other things how they can get access the EU grants through Horizon 2020 SME Instrument program. It was great to reconnect with our friends from ESN, Allied for Startups, Hubraum and Startup Sesame, as well as create new synergies with Startup Embassy from Palo Alto, Amazon UK and Allianz X.
We got the best insights on how startups can scale up from Zack Weisfeld (Microsoft Accelerator) and Joe Morley (Facebook), we were given insights into the pillars of the 4th Industrial Revolution from Mirek Dusek (World Economic Forum) and we learned how to tell better stories and create an impact while speaking from Peter Hopwood, the host of Unconvention 2017.
Last, but not the least, Adolfo Fernandez and Roger Albinyana from Google showed us how to win moments and new customers in the new digital era, where video will be the king of the visual content.
Moreover, we felt honoured for having the room completely packed during our Chairman’s talk at GSMA Mobile World Congress! Congratulations to Kumardev Chatterjee for a successful panel discussion where he represented Unmanned Life, the only UK drone company at #MWC17.
Finally, a big thank you to the EYIF volunteers for their work during the Mobile World Congress Barcelona. Without their assistance, it would be more difficult to achieve these great results!
Thank you, Barcelona, for hosting such an amazing event! What’s next? Meet our team next week in Berlin at Startup Connect. Find more information about it here.
