Insights from the Open Innovation 2.0 Conference 2017, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

On 13-14 June 2017, the 5th edition of the Open Innovation 2.0 Conference was held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, under the theme of ‘Open Innovation 2.0: The Platform for Digital Innovation’. The event culminated with the Innovation Luminary Awards Gala Dinner whose aim was to celebrate and recognise outstanding innovation role models and through this to inspire the next generation of innovators. Not so long ago, our Founder and Chairman, Kumardev Chatterjee, has been distinguished with this prestigious award. The winners of 2017 Innovation Luminary Awards are Prof. Piero Formica, Emil Boc, Dermot Mulligan, Bianca Muntean and Arduino.

This year, Maria Sotiriou, our Partnerships & Projects Manager, was invited to participate at the Conference and the Innovation Dialogue that preceded the event along with other experts who brought up challenges related to Open Innovation.

The Conference was organized by DG CONNECT, the Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group and the Committee of Regions, in partnership with Cluj-Napoca Municipality, ARIES Transylvania and other relevant actors of the regional innovation ecosystem with the aim to answer current social and economic challenges. Industrial Commons, Societal Commons, Innovation Ecosystems as a Service and Digital Innovation Hubs were just a few of the cross-cutting themes.

The Innovation Dialogue took place on the weekend preceding the conference (10th – 11th of June 2017) and gathered 60 interdisciplinary experts with the objective to develop breakthrough ideas and projects insights in the framework of the Digital Single Market strategy. The results were presented in front of the former Romanian Prime Minister and current Mayor of the City of Cluj-Napoca, Mr. Emil Boc.
